Scott Thompson is one of Australia’s leading communications strategists, renowned for directing high-profile campaigns that have driven transformative outcomes for businesses and communities alike.
A former award-nominated journalist with over 20 years of experience across corporate affairs, public policy, advocacy and strategic advisory, Scott is a trusted partner to CEOs, boards, executives and leaders navigating complex and contested environments.
Scott has advised ASX 200 CEOs, federal, state and local Ministers, MPs and officials, shaped organizational strategy, and influenced outcomes in critical policy areas at federal, state and local levels. His leadership has been instrumental across industries, including energy and resources, transport and infrastructure, health and ageing, retail, FMCG, and tourism.
Scott is a Board Member of Western Melbourne Tourism and is a former member of the Victorian Tourism Industry Council’s Policy Advisory Council. His insights into advocacy, policy, governance, and stakeholder engagement are informed by his tenure as a Director at the Business Council of Australia, where he led advocacy, strategy, public affairs, and media functions for over a decade.
Scott has spearheaded successful campaigns for energy providers, mining and resources companies, transport operators, water management authorities, and agricultural groups. Notably, he directed one of the most impactful public education campaigns on responsible gambling ever conducted by an Australian state government.
Before founding The Reputation Agency, Scott held senior executive roles at major public affairs firms and began his career as a journalist, at Victoria’s leading newspapers, including the Herald Sun and The Age. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism) Degree and a Master of Communication from RMIT University.
